It amazes me that these icons of the sport from that era say things like " machines are good for shape and definition." Just goes to show you that you can be a champion and be completely wrong with some of the paradigms you hold as fact and just aren't.

I've been working out for 27 years and I haven't injured myself a single time. Have stayed away from behind neck military press, deadlift, and heavy squats & bent over barbell rows, and I don't even know what my one-rep max is. If I can't lift something for 8 reps or more then I lower the weight.

This was the interview I need to see. Such an inspiring man

I was lucky enough to sit right behind the judges at the 1991 Mr Olympia pre judging. Lee Haney looked phenomenal - better than I ever could imagine. He would have beaten Dorian in 92 with that physique. I admit to previously being sometimes underwhelmed with his physique at certain Olympias but I'm glad I got to see him close up. Absolutely unbelievable.

Lee God Bless You and Your Family. You are truly an amazing Man like my Father and Grandfathers (RIP). I was raised in a Christian home by Ministers and I teach the same wisdom. My Grandparents were married over 75 years and my Parents for 41 years (RIP). We were poor but we always had food in our mouths, a roof, clothing but most importantly Love and Love for God Almighty and Jesus Christ Amen. I have been blessed to also achieve many great things in life like yourself. I am also a philanthropist and Celebrity Spokesman for United Cerebral Palsy. My late Cousin was Rich Piana (RIP). One of the things you mentioned above is knowing when to quit. Rich took everything to the extreme and did not adhere to this wisdom and passed at a young age of 47 Accepting in your mind and spirit that the goal and journey was accomplished and now a new journey begins to achieve even greater things for humanity is the KEY. I met Lee Haney in 1986 or '87 at Les Mills World of Fitness in Auckland New Zealand. I worked in the gym. What an amazing athlete and a genuine gentleman. Never forgotten the experience. It was just weeks after Lee had won Mr. Olympia (again?).... He was HUGE. He walked through the door into the gym and someone said "who turned out the lights". He blocked the sun lol.
